Unnumbered pages with about 150. Photographic illustrations throughout plus some drawings. FOREWORD: In the Summer of 1943 in Tunis a few of the more progressive members of the fourth coming Headquarters Company were sitting around with nothing much to do. The monthly crap game had spent itself, the fortunate ones having left for a Radesian pub to enjoy the fruits of their labor and it was raining out which eliminated the possibility of promenading avec le jeune fille. Therefore these progressive beings decided that an excellent way to spend an evening would be to record the annals of the headquarters for posterity, everyone overlooking the fact that posterity probably wanted absolutely nothing to with the headquarters. Thus a history was born. Unfortunately it cleared up the next day, and for a long, long time the birth got no further than labor pains. It was in Italy, after the units mission had been changed that someone noticed typewriters were in abundance, and since a number of members of the unit considered themselves journalisticly inclined, a few of the boys got together and once again it was the history that bore the brunt of their literary onslaught. Fingers were worn to bloody stumps, and midnight oil glowed mightily. This time it was Spring, and the urge to drink in the beauties of the Italian landscape that intervened with the progress of the history. When the Krauts decided they had enough and it became apparent that the company's days were limited, the progressive souls got together and swore to get the book out mainly because it was a challenge to their initiative. All the dusty manuscripts were wiped off, and the frenzied work was underway again. Since it was almost impossible to work in every occurrence since the units conception only the most important, and humorous have been presented. Complete with photographic illustrations, and maps with cartoons supposedly depicting the outstanding characteristics, it is hoped that the reader will find it interesting, and besides where else could you see your own picture in a publication. Nothing more than fact has been recorded throughout, so you may feel at liberty to take said facts, and distort them to your hearts content. It's your book. Take it with you. Perhaps after it's all over and you have turned in your OD in favor of the more colorful garb of civilian life, you will derive a small pittance of pleasure by turning back the years as you turn the pages, and recall once more the days when you were bucking for Pfc. or whatever you were bucking for.
