Printed in double columns.
The work is “ ‘Embellished and illustrated with a great Number of curious Copper-Plates, from original drawings made on purpose for this work by the celebrated Wale, and engraved by Grignion and other very eminent Artists.’ In fact the publication had already been running for over a year, since the ‘Gazetteer & Daily Advertiser’ of 21 January 1769 had announced that the first Number was published on the previous day.
“Samuel Wale had been designing illustrations for books and magazines, of which many were engraved by Charles Grignion, for 25 years. The plates credited to them in this work are distinguished from the rest by rococo frames, their subjects being historical or topical.” (Adams)
