First Edition. First issue second state of this scarce book, which has an extremely complicated bibliographical history. The rare half-title, frequently lacking, is here present. This copy does not have the suppressed dedication, but has the first word on p.9 as "ative" instead of the 2nd state corrected "lative". the other typographical error on p.131 is corrected to "lancing". Leaves C12, D1 and the removal cancel K5-K8 agree with the description of Todd, p.200 (see also Chuo (I) p. 45 and Jessop, pp.33-35. A very good copy in contemporary full calf, neatly and professionally restored. Contemporary ownership signature of J. Tannahill, Paisley on fep. Scattered foxing throughout text.
