Splitting at the seams; the most severe are a 5-inch split at the center, slightly affecting the image, and a two-inch split toward the bottom edge, slightly affecting a small bit of text. Paper is age-toned. A Very Good copy. An oversize print promoting the feed product sold by the International Stock Food Company. Part of a series of prints used to promote the company and its feed. Advertises in bold lettering at the top: "International Stock Food. 3 Feeds for One Cent." At the bottom in smaller font are three testimonials from three hog raiseres who extol the beneficial effects of International Stock Food on their pigs. There is also a brief promotional description at the bottom about the feed product. This description claims the feed is healthy for pigs, as well as other farm animals such as cattle, horses, goats, and lambs, results in better milk from sows to feed their piglets, and prevents diseases. The text also mentions how the feed comes from "powdered Roots, Herbs, Barks and Seeds" and is given to animals by adding it to their regular grain. The International Stock Food Company was founded in 1886 by entrepreneur Marion Willis Savage (1859-1916) in Minneapolis. Savage began his career as a drug store clerk in West Liberty, Iowa, where he first took an interest in the animal feed industry after interacting with farmers who frequented the store to buy animal feed and medicine. Savage moved to Minneapolis, which had thriving dairy and livestock industries, and started his company. His employment of local scientists and his own background in pharmacology helped grow the business. Savage eventually opened a plant in Minneapolis in an old exposition building. His signature slogan to promote his feed was, "Three Feeds for One Cent." With success in Minnesota, Savage opened other plants in Memphis, Toronto, and even overseas in England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, and Russia. To further promote his business (and as a side hobby), Savage ventured into horse racing. Notably, his favorite horse was a stallion named Dan Patch, who he had purchased in 1902. Dan Patch set the world record in 1906 at the Minnesota State Fair for pacing the fastest time in one mile, and he held this record for fifty-four years. The International Stock Food Company was sold in 2007 and is still in business to this day as International Stock Food (ISF). The company is currently based in Centralia, Ontario, Canada.. Print.
