Putnam & Co., London, 1936

First UK Edition (first printing), utilising the same English-translation as the American edition which appeared the same year. 8vo. ix, 755pp. Red cloth lettered in gold at the spine. Top edge very lightly dust soiled, and with just a trace of bruising and very slight discolouration to the cloth at the backstrip ends. Tiny creases to the corner tips of half a dozen adjacent leaves. Very good indeed in tanned, rubbed and worn non-price-clipped dust wrapper, nicked at the edges with some quite small areas of loss, and with some internal taped repair. One of the landmarks of Yiddish literature, penned after Singer emigrated from Poland to New York, and originally serialised in the Jewish daily 'Forward', before appearing in bookform in 1936 in Poland, the US and the UK..
