J. Arrowsmith, London, 1842

Original Hand Coloring, Very Good, Size : 629x975 (mm), 24.75x38.375 (Inches)

A rather important 19th century map of Upper and Lower Canadas and the Maritimes.

Published by John Arrowsmith, founder member of the Royal Geographical Society.

John Arrowsmith joined his uncle (Aaron) in 1810, but after his uncle's death he opened his own establishment. In 1795, his uncle published a large four-sheet map of North America which was dedicated to the Hudson's Bay Company, as he was their official mapmaker. Later on, in 1834, John produced his first map of British North America based on his uncle's great four-sheet map. This map was published in all editions of the 'London Atlas' from 1834 until 1858 with frequent updates and revisions.
