J. Aspin : Discoveries of Cap. Ross Parry & Franklin in the Arctic Regions from the Year 1818 to 1827

Thomson's New General Atlas, London, 1827

Hand Colored, Very Good,, Size : 505x605 (mm), 19.875x23.75 (Inches)

"A superb summary of the explorations to 1827, published by mapmaker John Thomson in 1827. The discoveries of William Edward Parry in 1819-20 and 1821-23 are shown. The water channel west of Lancaster Sound as far as Melville Island, including the northern part of Prince Regent Inlet, were mapped by Parry during his 1819-20 voyage; the Melville Peninsula and Fury and Hecla Strait during his 1821-23 expedition. Non-existent Cockburn Island north of the strait is actually part of Baffin Island, whose eastern shore had been remapped by John Ross in 1818. Also shown is the coast mapped by John Franklin during his first expedition, to the mouth of Copper Mine River and beyond in 1819-22, also shown in the [bottom right] inset. The geographical puzzle is beginning to be filled in." (Hayes 190), Hayes, Historical Atlas of Canada
