Original billhead and typed letter on beige paper with printed and typed text in black and blue ink, respectively. Illustrated letterhead with imagery of the sun and floral decorations. Datelined June 12, 1891 in Cincinnati, Ohio. 8 1/2" x 11." Paper is very clean and intact but has a few horizontal and vertical fold lines, slight wrinkling, and a faint stain along the right edge. The printed letterhead reads, "The J. D. Smith Foundry Supply Co., Manufacturers of All Kinds of Foundry Facings, Blackings and Foundry Supplies, Plumbago and Black Lead." Also printed within the letterhead is the following: "To Make Bright Smooth Castings, Use Radiant Facings, Offices: 827 Freeman Avenue, Mills: Kindel and Central Avenues." Printer of this billhead is listed as "The Cincinnati Litho. Co." J. D. Smith is listed as the company's president and treasurer, Joseph A. Schaefer as the vice president, and G. W. Fleig as the secretary. The letter is addressed to " Mess. C. H. Bird & Co." in Kalamazoo, Michigan and reads: "Gentlemen:- It has been some time since we have received an order from you and appreciating your patronage and being unable to see you personally at the present time we ask that you please not forget us when next needing anything in our line. If you haven't received one of our catalogues we shall be pleased to send you one. Trusting to hear from you and assuring you of prompt attention we remain, Very truly yours, The J. D.
