This is a guidebook for touring different places around Edinburgh and Haddington, Scotland by stagecoach. There are nine and seven tours listed for Edinburgh and Haddington, respectively. The rest of the booklet briefly describes places of interest on these tours. Prefatory Note by Jessie M. E. Saxby: "This does not profess to be a detailed 'Guide Book' (there are many such in existence), but rather an indication of what one may find 'by the way,' within easy distance of our city and not often seen by the orthodox tourist, who keeps to the beaten track. It is hoped that these 'outlines' may prompt many to visit those 'hallowed shrines of Scottish story,' and make themselves well acquainted with the past of this 'little great nation.'" The tours from Edinburgh are "Queensferry," "Roslin," "Dalkeith, Hawthornden, and Roslin," "Habbie's Howe and Carlops," "Aberlady and Dirleton Gardens," "Linlithgow," "Haddington and Gifford," "Dalkeith Palace, Newbattle Abbey, Borthwick and Crichton Castles," and "Yarrow and St. Mary's Loch." The tours from Haddington are "Tyninghamr, White-Kirk, Tantallon Castle, North Berwick," "Pressmennan Loch, Stenton, Whittinghame," "Gifford, Yester, Bolton," Biel, Tyninghame, Linton," "Pencaitland, Oxenford Castle, Tranent, Dalkeith," Lennoxlove, Salton, Gifford," and "Garleton, Gosford, Aberldy, Gullane." Some examples of the businesses, products, or services promoted by the ads: "Darling's Regent Hotel," "McDowell & Sons" [shortbread, cakes, biscuits, and the like], "Scott, Croall & Sons" [carriage, cab, and coach service], "Ritchie's Temperance Luncheon and Tea Rooms," "Clark, Adams, & Co." [Chinese and Japanese warehouse], "Leith and London" [steamship service], J. & G. Stewart's Old Vatted Scotch Whiskies, and Inglis's Photographic Views.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good.
