Beveled decorative maroon boards the bust of Dickens in gilt to the front.The titles "Forster's Life of Charles Dickens" etc in gilt to the spine.Boards show some shelf wear,light soilng a little dampness perhaps and there is foxing more noticeable at the(Frontis etc.) engravings (caused by the tissue paper protection).Vol. III has a split across the spine approx 2" up from the foot. The binding seems good for another couple of hundred years all be it that there minor cracking at the hinges mainly in Vol. II.The facsimile of the letter..Invitation to the Public Dinner in New York and the reverse to a Public Ball in New York has a small portion missing. We have had a photocopy made of both and this is include with your books.Vol.I the rear has a Note to the Second American Edition.Vol I has Corrections made in the later Editions of the First volume.Vol.II has the same to the Second Volume.Books are dated 1872,73,74 (Autograph of C.D. 1837 on the fly leaf..
