A concise history of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad (L&N) and its pivotal role in the Southern economy during the antebellum era, Civil War, and Reconstruction. The book is divided into four parts and moves chronologically through these three historical time periods and concludes with the expansion of the railroad. L&N was first established in 1850 and had many decades of financial success. It weathered the Civil War and the Great Depression and withstood many years of great social and technological changes.
