Original billhead printed in black ink on light beige paper. Also includes handwriting in black ink. Datelined June 24, 1886 in San Francisco, California. 8 1/2" x 4 3/4." Billhead is very clean and intact overall except for a large scribble in blue colored pencil on front, light age toning, two vertical fold lines, and some staining at left edge on front and right edge on back (possibly glue residue). A Very Good copy. An original billhead from Keyston Brothers of San Francisco, California to "J. Goldman & Co." of Tulare, California. J. Goldman & Company was once the largest general store of Tulare. J. Goldman & Co. purchased two line items which are both described in part as "[--?] stocks." The printed header reads, "Bought of Keyston Bros., Manufacturers and Manufacturers' Agents, Whips & Lashes of Every Variety. Salesroom, 104 Market Street. Sole Agents American Whip Company, Westfield, Mass." The proprietors' names are also printed at the top: "Jas. W. Keyston" and "Wm D. Keyston." The names of the proprietors are the names of the founders of Keyston Bros., James W. Keyston and William D. Keyston. Keyston Bros. was founded by James Keyston in 1868 as a company specializing in the sale of whips and lashes. William Keyston later joined his brother in 1872 as a business partner. Over the years, Keyston Bros. acquired other companies such as Winchester & Stone Saddlery, F. S. Johnson & Co., and Harpham & Jensen Leather and Shoe Findings Company. Keyston Bros. is still in business to this day as a leading jobber of leathers, vinyls, fabrics, and textiles for various industries including automotive, marine, furniture, and healthcare..
