Kruttschnitt, General Manager of the Southern Pacific Company, and W. G. Nevin, General Manager of the Santa Fe Pacific Railroad Company and Southern California Railway Company. A brief announcement about a rule taking effect December 1, 1897 prohibiting new requests for passes that grant free transportation on railroad lines "in the territory south of Portland, Oregon, and west of Ogden, Utah, El Paso, Texas, and Albuquerque and Deming, New Mexico, for subordinate employes." For said "subordinate employes," the announcement continues that "a special rate of one-half tariff rates will be granted them instead." The exceptions to this rule are the President, Vice President, and General Managers. The reason stated for this new rule is to offset the "increasing burden of travel on free transportation.".
