Lambs Theatre Club : The Lambs Theatre Club "Flower Card for Joe McCarthy (Producer) with 135 Signatures

Two sheets (11 x 34 inch). The Lambs Theatre Club of New York city was founded in 1874 as a men's theatrical and dining club. Still in existence, in its history the club has had over 6,000 members (such as Irving Berlin, George M. Cohan and so on). The Lambs Club regularly put on "gambols", or elaborate shows, at its clubhouse or at nearby theatres and ballrooms. This very large 'flower card' is for Joe McCarthy (1885-1943), who is identified as a "Pro" (Producer) for a 1922 gambol. McCarthy was a member of the Lambs Club from 1922-1943. He was a lyricist of many popular songs in the early 1900s. For example: "You Made Me Love You, I didn't Want to Do It." He was a founding member of ASCAP (1914). The flower card is signed by many Lambs Club members, including John Golden, who lists himself as "Shepherd" (President). Most of the signatures can be identified as belonging to men in the professional theater (actors, playwrights, producers, music people). Some of the people signing the 'flower card' achieved much celebrity, such as the actor Ed Wynn and the band leader Fred Waring. The signatures on the card are listed below. About 20 of the signatures are not decipherable. using the New York Times directory of the Theater (1972), individuals are identified as actors (A); playwrights (Pl); producers (Pr); and music people (M) - composers, lyricists, and musicians.
