Original billhead on beige paper with printed text and handwriting in black ink. Datelined July 26, 1918 in Oakland, California. 8 1/2" x 11." Two pages, complete. Billhead is very clean and intact overall. Paper has a few vertical and horizontal fold lines. Slight soiling on the back. This is a letter handwritten in pencil on the company stationery of Landregan & White, Incorporated. The printed header reads, "Landregan & White, Incorporated, Distributors of Imported & California Wines, Brandies and Kentucky Whiskies." Also printed at the top are the locations of the office and salesrooms at "Cor. 61st and Adelines Sts." and the telephone number ("Piedmont 132"). The letter is handwritten in pencil and presumably authored and signed by one of the proprietors, James Landregan, with the initials, "J. S.[?] L." and "Your Dad." In this letter, Landregan writes to his son Jimmy (or daughter Junny) about everyday business and recent events. Landregan suggests he is replying to his (or her) recent letters and says the reason his reply is late is because two acquaintances, Messrs. Mason and Such, had a hard time finding a job. He says he "will call on Mr. Donnelly and yourself before Aug. 15." Landregan also relays a message from Such that a family[?] is in a certain part of the country. Landregan writes further, "Well Jimmy [or Junny] things down here about the same. Everybody at home are fine. Will write you again soon. ... Your Dad. P.S. Best regards to P[...] Donnelly and tell him I hope the good work will continue. J. S.[?] L." This James Landregan may or may not be of any relation to James A. Landregan, Jr. at Goodyears Bar, Sierra County, California. Within a collection of letters by James A. Landregan, Jr. and his wife Helen, he mentions a Mr. Donnelly. This collection also lists several locations and among them is Oakland. James Landregan (of Landregan & White) may have also had a son named James (hence the addressee's name in the letter if the name is Jimmy).. Ephemera. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
