Langenhoven was largely responsible for the eventual formal acceptance of the language as part of the South African broader cultural blanket. This collection of stories, poems and essays and other bits and pieces was one of his most popular works. This is an updated edition of the original 1914 edition. The book has aged but is in poor to fair condition by taking this into account. The board and cloth covers are resolute and assured. They have wear, marking, stains. Inside, the contents are tanned by age throughout. There is some mild marking. The frontis pages have a previous owner signature. PRESENTATION/ASSOCIATION COPY, having a presentation label on the fep as follows: "Van die Skrijwer, met beskeie en hoog-agtnde komplimente aan sij kollega in di Z.A. Akademie, Prof. Dr. T.H. Le Roux, Pretoria". Thomas Hugo Le Roux (1883-1970) was an important linguist and cultural figure in the development of Afrikaans. (See Nienaber's article on him in DSAB V: 447-449)
