A comedic play about a bohemian woman on Long Island who becomes entangled in the affairs of a conventional family who visits the island. One of the family members is a girl who has a tendency to fall asleep which results in a complex love triangle. This play interweaves comedy and romance and includes messages about conformity and nonconformity. The play was first presented by the Theatre Guild at New York's Music Box Theatre on October 29, 1960. The inaugural cast included Celeste Holm (as Camilla Jablonski), Madeleine Sherwood (as Lily Brown), Jeffrey Rowland (as Cary Brown), Eileen Heckart (as Deedee Grogan), Tom Hatcher (as Schuyler Grogan), Jane Fonda (as Norma Brown), James McArthur (as Aaron Jablonski), and Richard Derr (as Tucker Grogan). Arthur Laurents (1917-2011) was an American playwright, screenwriter, theater director, and film producer.
