Stapled, 8 page textured paper program. Signature of Marc Lavry on front. This is the program for a performance held on March 6th, 1960, at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. It contains the libretto of the oratorio (by Helen Lavry) and a biography of the composer Marc Lavry. Marc Lavry (1903-1967) was a musical prodigy born in Latvia. He was the conductor of the Berlin Municipal Symphony Orchestra from 1929, 1933, but returned to Latvia due to the rise of Nazism. In 1935, he and his wife emigrated to Palestine (later Israel). He was very prolific and is considered one of the founders of Israeli music. The oratorio "Queen Esther" was commissioned by Congregation Beth Israel for its 100th Anniversary, and Marc Lavry traveled from Israel to conduct the work.
