The note from Maclise refers to a design of which Longman had seen the commencement, now completed, and requesting that either T. Longman or his son see him on the following Saturday. Conjoined on the following blank, Longman requests the recipient to make arrangements to call on Maclise. Daniel Maclise (25 January 1806 – 25 April 1870) was an Irish history, literary and portrait painter, and illustrator, who worked for most of his life in London, England.. In 1846 Longman published Maclise's Illustrated version of Moore's Irish Melodies. As 5th generation family, Thomas Longman (1804–1879) and William Longman (1813–1877) took control of the publishing firm in 1842.
