He was a Whig. Marsh served as a U.S. Representative from Vermont from 1843-1849, the 3rd U.S. Minister Resident to the Ottoman Empire from 1850-1853 under President Zachary Taylor, and the 1st U.S. Ambassador to Italy from 1861-1882 under President Abraham Lincoln. He questions the motives of this war and views the actions of the U.S. against Mexico as amounting to plunder and conquest.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
