Salesman's sample. Original publisher's red cloth binding with an illustration of the states approximately east of the Mississippi River. 6 1/4" x 9." 103 pages, complete. Thirty-one black and white plates and several black and white illustrations, complete. Gilt lettering on front and back covers (a bit faded). The back cover features a vertical illustrated band (possibly to advertise what the spine of the finished book will look like) that shows an illustrated portion of the U.S. from North Dakota to Texas. Pages and covers are clean and intact. This sample is "profusely illustrated with authentic photographs" and includes excerpts from the actual book. The photographs show scenes of flooding, the aftermath of tornadoes, and victims of the natural disasters. One photograph shows people waiting to receive food and has a caption that says Orville Wright was one of the men in the breadline. Many of the photographs are by Underwood & Underwood. The natural disasters addressed in this book happened in 1913, which included the Great Dayton Flood and a series of tornadoes that affected the Midwest among other catastrophes. Two pages in the back advertise information about the complete book, which is over 350 pages with fifty illustrations. The actual book was sold in Cloth Binding and Half Morocco Binding (Library Style) with Marbled Edges. Blank forms in the back for purchasers.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
