Topics include funding, taxes, infrastructure, implementation of new laws, and the like. Editor Haven A. Mason was also a community activist and the city clerk of Santa Clara. Mason and Ben Lamborn, City Clerk of Alameda, played key roles in organizing the League of Municipalities in 1898. The League of Municipalities was inspired by the National Municipal League, which was a citizens group that had been founded in 1894 to fight city corruption. The League of Municipalities still exists to this day as the League of California Cities with the main office located in Sacramento. Most of California's 482 cities are represented in the League.
