[iv] + 80 pp. + 25 color plates including frontispiece. 4to., pictorial cloth stamped in gilt and black, with b/w pasredown panel on front cover depicting the columned and parqueted interior of a grand castle. Fair binding, top of spine has small stain and 1-inch closed tear, with the lower third of the spine partially detached at rear joint with several small chips. Beveled boards are shelfworn. Front flyleaf through frontispiece detached, laid in. Interior good, with frontispiece slightly soiled at margins (not affecting image), and frontispiece tissue guard torn. Owner's pencil signature on frontis. tissue guard. Title page soiled (not affecting color vignette) and slightly chipped with a few closed edgetears. Foxing and a few closed tears and shallow chips to next few pages, not affecting text or images. Soil and occasional pencil marks to a few interior text pages, but plate images are mostly clean, all images bright. A companion to "Ancestral Homes of Britain," 1868, also by Morris. Rare.
