Original billhead on beige paper with printed text in black ink and handwriting in black ink and pencil. Letterhead includes a small black and white illustration of bathroom with a double vanity and high-tank pull-chain toilet. No date, circa 1900-1909 (blank fill-in date of "190_"). Location is Sacramento, California. 8 1/2" x 9 1/4." Billhead is clean and intact overall. Paper has a few horizontal and vertical fold lines with slight splitting at the edges of the folds and where the folds intersect. A few faint stains on the paper, but handwriting is still readable. The handwritten portions include the name of the customer, the item(s)/service(s) purchased, the price of the item(s)/service(s), and acknowledgment of the customer's payment. The customer was "Mrs. Kunz" at "10th & T St." Twelve lines of items and the cost of labor were paid "To Fit up Basin & connect stove." The printed letterhead reads, "[Customer] To Mott & Schoenbakler, Dr. (Successors to Chris. Schmid), Practical Plumbers and Gas Fitters, Steam and Hot Water Heating; Special Attention Given to all New York; Satisfaction Guaranteed; Estimates Furnished; 1021 Ninth Street (I. O. O. F. Temple)." Additional printed information: "Shop Phones: Capital 775, Sunset Blue 424; Residence Phones: Sunset Blue 265, Capital 337-3 Bells." While there is not much information on Mott & Schoenbackler, there is documentation of Chris Schmid having made a name for himself as a plumber in Sacramento. Schmid went on to work as one of the owners of F. A. Gilley & Company, a plumbing business in San Francisco, which became the Gilley-Schmid Company. "I. O. O. F." refers to the International Organization of Odd Fellows (IOOF), a Masonic organization that promotes recreational activities as well as ethics based on reciprocity and charity. The IOOF began as an fraternal organization in 1819 but began to admit women over the age of eighteen in 1894.. Ephemera. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
