O. HAROLD McAVOY : 1906 & 1944 ORIGINAL SKETCHBOOKS AND JOURNALS OF NOTED TORONTO ARTIST AND ARCHITECT FROM A YOUNG TEENAGER TO A MIDDLE AGED MAN

16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. On offer is a small archive of two [2] notebooks, the earliest dated 1906 through 1914 and then a later sketchbook and catchall for drawings and notes on art and architecture dated in the 1940s. Both books were handwritten and hand-drawn by O. Harold McAvoy [1891 - 1977], a noted Toronto architect and artist. A very unique grouping seeing the artist as a boy and then the middle aged man. In the early book, a flip book style notepad, 50+ pp, the young Harold drew, made notes, kept scores and a myriad of other things a youngster of the time might note: Harold transcribes a number of movies and books; 'The Talisman', 'Runaway June'; Sudoku game boards and instructions; a caricature of Ti-Cob [assuredly in baseball uniform the famed Ty Cobb]; a synopsis of Silas Marner and later notes on chemistry, architecture and then a piece of blueprint relevant to his studies. Later, the 30 year older Harold was deeply ensconced studying Toronto landmarks such as Hart House, CPR bridge trestle etc. The 1940s book has been turned into a small album, aboout 22 pp, with some 1944 dated drawing and then studies of musical instruments, various exotic animals including skeletons of prehistoric dinosaurs, floor plans of an art gallery, a dissertation on the English Spinning Wheel with an added page on the subject in his hand tucked in the book and some graphs related to his teaching art it appears. Overall these books comprise a unique peek into this noted Toronto artist. Overall G.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hard Cover
