Original Postcard Photograph: Washington State Normal School at Bellingham Sophomore Football Team (Now Western Washington University), Class of 1912

Original postcard photograph with sepia color that shows thirteen members of the Washington State Normal School (Western Washington University) sophomore football team, Class of 1912. The football team is shown posed in front of a brick building. 5 1/2" x 3 1/2." Postcard is very clean and intact with no damage to the photograph on front. The back of the postcard features space for writing a message and address to the addressee. Top-right corner has a space for a postage stamp. This postcard is unused but has a few former ownership markings in blue crayon or pencil and a blue stamp. Western Washington University (WWU) was founded in 1886 as the Northwest Normal School. WWU has undergone several name changes since its inception; New Whatcom Normal School in 1893, State Normal School at Whatcom (1901), Washington State Normal School at Bellingham (1904), Western Washington College of Education (1937), Western Washington State College (1961), and finally, Western Washington University in 1977. The WWU football program was active from 1903-2008. It was announced in 2009 that WWU would no longer have a program due to financial reasons.. Photographic Image.
