On offer is a fascinating, original 1942 Newfoundland WWII 280+ page manuscript diary handwritten from the unique perspective of an Army lawyer, Robert Sheldrick, who was stationed in Newfoundland where he was responsible for lands and buildings leased or occupied by the Canadian army. An excellent diarist and keen observer detailing his duties and much of what happens around him his service work afforded him many uncommon insights which he shares with his journal. Readers will also be surprised by the complexity of the issues he faces and the work involved. Here are some snippets: 'proposed site for joint services cemeteries for protestant and R.C. personnel near the T.C.A. Building at Torbay had not been approved because coming down to the runway over a cemetery was considered to be well calculated to promote depression among pilots.' October 19, 1942 'Advised P.E.I.H. by telephone to strike off strength six men lost in the S.S. Caribou as 'missing believed drowned' on the date of the disaster' referencing the heinous Nazi attack by submarine of a civilian Newfoundland Railway passenger ferry killing 137 many women and children. The significant event and the large scale loss of life is considered one of the most brutal events to occur in Canada and Newfoundland. The largish book, a Students MSS Book proper is 269 pages, 20 pages tucked in so some soiling. Overall G+.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Good+
