Roehrig, Catharine H : Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin. Summer 2002. Life Along the Nile Three Egyptians of Ancient Thebes

New York: Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2002.

Wraps, 4to, 56 pages including selected Bibliography. Illustrated in color and black and white paintings, objects, line drawings, and photographs of the locations and contents of the tombs as they were discovered. From the extensive collection of the Museum's Egyptian holdings, the author has reconstructed the lives of three Egyptians who did NOT belong to Egypt's elite ruling class. Known to us because their tombs lay undisturbed for thousands of years, these individuals were: the Manager of a wealthy man's estate; the mother of an architect and a skilled craftsman. The funerary and other objects found in the tombs give us a picture of the lives of the ordinary Egyptian centuries ago.
