Original letter handwritten in black ink on one leaf of beige stationery of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. Signed by L. S. Rowe: "Sincerely yours, L. S. Rowe." Datelined December 15, 1913 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 6 3/4" x 9 1/4" folded. 13 1/2" x 9 1/4" unfolded. One page, complete. Paper and handwriting are very clean and intact except for a couple horizontal and vertical fold lines. A Fine copy. Leo Stanton Rowe (1871-1946) was a professor of political science at the University of Pennsylvania from 1896-1917, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Treasury from 1917-1919, and the director general of the Organization of American States (OAS; also, Pan-American Union) from 1920-1946. At the time of this letter, Rowe was also the President of the University of Pennsylvania. Edward Bok (1863-1930) was an author and the longtime editor of the Ladies' Home Journal. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1921 for his autobiography, The Americanization of Edward Bok: The Autobiography of a Dutch Boy Fifty Years Later. In this letter, Rowe responds to an invitation Bok had sent him and writes that he will be able to meet with him on January 27, 1914.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
