Original Wing Tips magazine. Printed in black ink on white paper. Pages laid in loose. Front cover shows an illustration of a man in uniform smelling a flower with a wistful look on his face. 10 1/2" x 13 3/4." Eight pages, complete. Black-and-white illustrations, complete. Magazine is clean and intact overall but there is slight rubbing to front and back, a small purple streak on back, light age toning throughout, and a few small chips and close tears along edges (mostly limited to margins). A Very Good copy. The March 22, 1946 issue of Wing Tips magazine. "Published every Friday by and for the military personnel of the field [Mather Field]." The magazine includes news from Mather Field and other stories and articles that are relevant to military personnel at Mather. The following are some of the features in this issue: "Editorial" [about the need for housing for the families of servicemen who are still on active duty], "Chaplain," "Monotony of PW Life Broken By Humorous Sidelights" [a few short stories of American POWs and their antics in German camps], "Protestant Chaplain Assigned Here After 33 Months in ETO," "Baseball Team Opens Practice Next Monday," "Basketball Champs The Nation Over," "Squadron F," "Squadron C," "Squadron A," "Sacramento College Announce Many Interesting Classes," "Civilian Board To Supervise Atomic Bomb Project Tests," "USO Stages Show Coming Here April 5," and "Laff It Off!" [jokes and comics section]. Mather Field was the predecessor of Mather Air Force Base (AFB). During World War II, Mather AFB was a noted United States air base and training school for pilots, navigators, observers, and bombardiers. Under the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC), Mather AFB was decommissioned in 1993. However, the former air base reopened in 1995 as the Sacramento Mather Airport, which is still open to this day.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
