Two volumes, complete. Red 3/4 leather binding with marbled paper-covered boards. Gilt lettering on spine. Both volumes include beautiful engravings hand-colored in watercolor. No date, circa 1824. 3 1/2" x 5 1/2." All pages of both volumes, complete. Vol. I: 320 pages and eleven plates. 325 pages and fifteen plates. Many of the plates show portraits of Indigenous men and women of the Pacific Islands. Two and four of the plates in Vols. I and II, respectively, show Indigenous women who are topless. Each volume has two former owners' bookplates tipped in on front pastedown and front free endpaper. One of the bookplate designs reads, in part, "Michael & Dawn." Pages are very clean and intact overall except for slight age toning and occasional offsetting from the illustrations. Covers are very clean and intact overall except for light to moderate rubbing to front, back, spine, and extremities. Binding is tight. Very Good copies. A beautiful two-book set about the people and cultures of the Pacific Islands. Contents are listed as follows. Vol. I: "Introduction," "The Friendly Islands," "Sandwich Islands," and "The Marquesas." Vol. II: "Easter Island," "Society Islands," "The Feejee Islands," "New Zealand," "Radack Islands," "The Caroline Islands," "New Caledonia," "The New Hebrides," and "Pitcairn's Island."
