Original stereocard on light blue board. Black and white photograph. No date, circa 1870s-1917. Board measures 7" x 3 1/2"; photograph measures 6" x 3 1/8." Minimal age wear and a few very small spots on left image. A couple lines of former ownership handwriting on back that identifies the image as the Aqueduct Bridge. A clean, fine copy. Photograph shows the Aqueduct Bridge from a hilltop view with a town in the background. The Aqueduct bridge was a bridge constructed in 1843 that spanned the Potomac River and connected the neighborhoods of Georgetown, Washington, D.C. and Rosslyn, Virginia. It was demolished in 1933 after the construction of the nearby Key Bridge. Title printed on left edge on front of the board. "T. W. Smillie, Photographer" printed on right edge on front of the board. Thomas Smillie (1843-1917) was a Scottish American photographer and archivist. He was the first official photographer of the Smithsonian Institution and first official curator of its photography collection.. Photographic Image. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
