Typical library stamps and pocket remain. This is an association copy with presentation stamp and names on second free endpaper, addressed to Charles St. Piere from Herman W. Allen, a former Private in Company A of the 13th Vermont Regiment from 1862-63, and later a First Lieutenant in the Vermont Militia from 1864-68, then Inspector for Rifle Practice on staff of Governor Wodbury at the rank of Colonel from 1894-96. Allen then became a Vermont State Senator, serving from 1896-98 and was a delegate to the GOP Convention in 1904.
