A beautiful, fine-press broadside featuring an excerpt from Amy Tan's famous novel, The Joy Luck Club (1989). Amy Tan (b. 1952) is an American author perhaps best-known for this historical fiction, which contains stories as told by four Chinese-American immigrant families who meet at The Joy Luck Club in San Francisco. Copyright information printed at the bottom: "Copyright 1989 by Amy Tan. From The Joy Luck Club. This is a gift from Black Oak Books, Berkeley on the occasion of a reading by the author. Designed and printed at Okeanos Press." Black Oak Books was a bookstore in Berkeley, California. It originally opened in 1983 and carried a wide variety of new and used books, some of which were rare and first editions. Sadly, the store closed in 2016 due to the rising cost of rent in the area. Okeanos Press was also based in Berkeley. The first couple lines from the broadside, presumably from the section of the novel titled, "Feathers from a Thousand Li Away": "The old woman remembered a swan she had bough many years ago in Shanghai for a foolish sum. This bird, boasted the market vendor, was once a duck that stretched its neck in hopes of becoming a goose, and now look!--it is too beautiful to eat.". Poster. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
