TAYLOR, J.B : England's Happiness in a Lineal Succession and the Deplorable Miseries Which Ever Attended Doubtful Titles to the Crown, Historically Demonstrated, by the Bloody Wars Between the Two Houses of York & Lancaster

H Clark for John Taylor, London, 1685

A very good copy in early 20th century 1/2 brown tan calf, new red leather title label, old marbled boards. Several of the gutters between gatherings have at some time in the mid 20th century been sellotaped with narrow tape in an attempt to strengthen the binding, leaving very narrow (3mm) tape stainsalong the inner margins, title page upper right corner chipped and strengthened, losing "ss" of "Happiness", otherwise an intact clean copy of a very scarce book. This pamphlet was written to reinforce the public’s acceptance of James II as the rightful King and therefore best for England, despite being a Catholic. The worrying question to James’s subjects was whether or not a Catholic dynasty was beginning.
