Program for a performance by Arthur Whittemore (1915-1984) and Jack Lowe (1916-1996), two pianists who famously played together as the duo, Whittemore and Lowe. They met and first began playing as two-piano team when they were in college. Both men served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. During the war, Whittemore and Lowe had more than 700 concerts at various bases and hospitals. After the war, they continued their piano-playing and, on average, played at more than seventy concerts annually. Front and back pages include a brief biography of Whittemore and Lowe. Interior pages comprise the program. The Community Concert Association was part of a movement to bring the arts from metropolitan areas to smaller communities that did not necessarily have the funds to host such events. Community Concerts was founded in 1922 as the Organized Audience Movement, which was led by Dema Harshbarger and Ward French. Columbia Concerts Corporation (which would later become Columbia Artists Management, Inc.) became interested in Community Concerts and acquired it in 1928 as a subsidiary. After the acquisition, Community Concerts became Community Concerts, Inc., which helped local communities establish their own Community Concert Associations. Community Concerts enjoyed many decades of success under Columbia Artists until 1999 when it was sold to Trawick Artists Management. Unfortunately, Community Concerts became defunct in 2003 when Trawick Artists became bankrupt, but today, many of the local Community Concert Associations still operate independently.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
