One black-and-white frontispiece, complete. One page in front advertises other pocket books by the publisher. Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. Binding is tight. Covers and spine have some rubbing. Gilt lettering and decorations have slight fading. Occasional foxing to the pages. A Very Good copy. A collection of short stories, sayings, and anecdotes featuring vintage humor. Joseph Miller (1684-1738) was an English actor and the namesake of this book. He appeared in a number of plays including some by Shakespeare. Apparently, Miller became associated with joke books based off the following story: Miller frequented the Black Jack Tavern, where he was known as a serious fellow; as an ongoing joke, his friends ascribed all new jokes to him.
