The London Chronicle was a family-run newspaper that was founded in 1756 and published its first issue in 1757. The newspaper ran under its original title, "The London Chronicle: or, Universal Evening Post," from 1757 to June 1765. In addition to local and world news, the London Chronicle also covered subjects pertaining to literature, art, theater, and the like. From July 1765-April 1823, the newspaper shortened its official title to "The London Chronicle." The London Chronicle was ultimately bought out by the London Packet in 1823. This issue covers news from August 14-16, 1759. Among the news and subjects covered in this issue are battles in the Seven Years' War, a reprint of Prince Ferdinand's orders (which may pertain to the Battle of Minden), proposed fortifications for Milford Haven, advertisement for "stomachic lozenges" (purportedly cures stomach ailments), departures and arrivals of ships, recent publications, and excerpts from Hudibras translated into Latin with original English text printed below (intended for entertainment). Full text printed in bottom margin on last page (Page 160): "London: Sold by J. Wilkie, at the Bible, in St. Paul's Church-Yard, where Advertisements, and Letters to the Authors, are taken in: And where all Persons who choose to be regularly served with this Paper, are desired to apply.".
