The Midland Hotel; Baltimore Hotel Company : Original Billhead with Handwritten Letter and Postal Card - The Midland Hotel and Baltimore Hotel Company, Kansas City, Missouri

Original billhead with handwritten letter and postal card. Billhead is on beige stationery and has a printed header and illustration for the Midland Hotel. Header reads, "The Midland, the Largest and Absolutely Fireproof Hotel in the City." Underneath the illustration, which shows a corner view of the hotel, is "American and European." Postal card is on beige cardstock. 1902 and 1903. Letter measures 6" x 9 1/2." Postal card measures 5 1/2" x 3 1/4." Letter is one page, complete. Postal card is complete and written on both sides. Both the letter and postal card are clean and intact overall but have three small holes, possibly from a pin. The letter is handwritten in black ink on the billhead. Letter is datelined January 17, 1903 in Kansas City, Missouri. The postal card has different handwriting overlapping one another, most of it in pencil. The original message is datelined December 6, 1902 in Spring Garden, Missouri. This message was handwritten in pencil by a patron named Joe Barker. In the letter on the billhead, the author writes to his colleagues (or employees) about replying to the Barker's request for a "Garbo Magnetic Razor." The author tells his colleagues the following: "Please open up communication with Mr. Barker and endeavor to sell him a razor." If they do not complete the sale, he concludes that they should simply return the postal card to New York City (front has the address of A. L. Silverstein who lives on Broadway, NYC). Postal cards are differentiated from postcards in that they are issued by postal authorities with prepaid postage. The postal card has printed text and two small illustrations on the front. One of the illustrations has "United States of America" and the U.S. coat of arms showing the eagle. The other illustration is the prepaid stamp which is printed directly on the card and shows a side portrait of President William McKinley in a roundel. The back has the handwriting of Barker and others.. Ephemera. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
