A fine letter. Approx. 2/3 of the first page is written in Afrikaans: he humorously states that he cannot write in Afrikaans, and switches to English for the balance of the letter"My son has just said'I think you are making quite a lot of mistakes' but I've never tried to write Afrikaans before". He goes on to mention that his biography is being written by John barrett, and goes on to comment on a newsclipping (attached) dealing with Roy Hilligenn. There are some other passing references to weightlifters referred to only by first names. A rare souvenir of this celebrated strongman and physical fitness pioneer in the African sub-continent. Autograph material such as this is extremely scarce, and this is the first letter from him that we have seen or handled.
