Original black-and-white publicity photograph showing pilot Ross Peacock and actor John Wayne conversing with one another near a wheel of one of Peacock's airplanes. No date, circa 1951. 8" x 10." Printed description tipped in on back. Photo is virtually pristine and intact except for bumped corners at the bottom, a few small wrinkles, and some discoloration from the glue holding the description. A Fine copy. The description reads, "Star and Pilot. John Wayne and Chief Pilot Ross Peacock discuss plans for the flying visit Wayne and his wife are taking to Mexico and South America in the privately chartered plane, The Landseaire. Combining a vacation and a public relations junket for his two recently completed RKO Radio films, 'Flying Leathernecks' and 'Jet Pilot,' the trip will provide motion pricture fans of those countries their first opportunity of meeting the star who was recently voted America's Number One Favorite." John Wayne (1907-1979) was a famous American actor who was part of Hollywood's Golden Age. He had a prolific career and appeared in over 170 movies and TV shows. Wayne is best-known today for his roles in Westerns. Harrison Ross Peacock (1901-1956), more commonly known as Ross Peacock, was an American pilot. He was married to the pioneer pilot, Achsa Barnwell Peacock (1904-2003), who was one of 117 women pilots at the time in the United States and the first female pilot to receive a transport pilot license in the state of California. In Bakersfield, the couple operated an airline out of Kern County Airport (now Meadows Field Airport). They also ran several flight schools.
