Visually the exterior appearance is still acceptable because of its provenance, and for a book of it's age - over 100 years old and it's nature,i.e. a young child's book, and even internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation. It is only the faults described that prevent a slightly higher grading. William Percival Westell (1874-1943) was self-taught naturalist and popularizer of British natural history. He wrote some 84 books using 37 publishers and gave 145 radio talks for the BBC,mostly on natural history. His works were accessible to all, particularly the young,by him eschewing technical language in his books.Contents of this title include,How to make a home-made camera,British mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, butterflies, moths, other insects etc.,some British wild flowers and trees, and on the farm and miscellaneous items. Stamford School is an independent school for boys in Stamford, Lincolnshire in the English public school tradition.Founded in 1532,by a local merchant and alderman William Radcliffe,as a chantry school,it fell foul of the Protestant reformers and was only saved from destruction under the Chantries Act of Edward VI by the personal intervention of Sir William Cecil (later Lord Burghley) who worked in the service of Edward Seymour,1st Duke of Somerset and who secured a specific Act of Parliament in 1548 ensuring its survival.Apart from the chantries of the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, only those of Eton College, Wichester College, Berkhamstead,St Albans and Stamford schools survived. The emblem for the School's crest+motto was adopted from medieval wool merchant, William Browne (died 1489),after the school had been re-endowed from Browne's Charity in 1873.The stork is supposed to be a rebus on his wife,Margaret's maiden name of Stoke. The current form believed to have been designed by Nelson Dawson,an English silversmith, jeweller, designer, etcher and painter and member of the Arts and Crafts movement.
