Visually the exterior appearance is more than acceptable,and particularly internally,the book is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its age.It is only the minimal exterior faults that prevents a slightly higher grading.Despite them, it really is an exceptional copy for its cleanliness,brightness and its scarcity too.
This is one of the very first printings of this issue,being printed in Ireland by Future Print Ltd.,Dublin,for Heinemann,Australia,in order to beat the British Government's legal injunction to try and ban its publication.As a result there was no time to include the b/w photographs,but in the 2nd impressions the photographs were grouped together at the rear,then the later and subsequent impressions had them all collected towards the centre pages. Without the 8pp pages of b/w photographs the thinness of this issue is noticeable against a subsequent impression.There are variant colour bindings too,namely grey-green,red,and/or burgundy-brown.Also,the paper used in this first impression was of a superior quality which enabled it to remain crisp and white and so does not suffer from the ubiquitous toning of the later impressions.
All five issue-points of the true first edition are present,as called for: no photographs; price on dustwrapper flap printed in Irish pounds; printed in Ireland; published in Australia; and the red banner: At Last!
