Illustrated advertisements, most of which relate to music, are on the inside of both covers. A few ads are on the interior pages. Blue stamp of the California State Library in upper-right corner of the front cover. Former ownership signature in black ink on the front cover. Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. A few words inscribed in top margin of the interior sheet music and annotations written on the sixteenth page. Two vertical fold lines, most apparent on front cover. Among the businesses and products advertised are Byron Mauzy, The American Clothing Association, Benj. Curtaz & Son, A. Repsold & Co., Conover Pianos, F. W. Spencer & Co., Overland Monthly, Joe Poheim, Kohler & Chase, and Sherman, Clay & Co. The California Musical Journal was founded in 1895. It contains a variety of topics, such as news of the latest and upcoming events, news about musicians, and music theory.
