1836 Original Holland Company Deed

This is an original "Indenture" [deed] for a plot of land to John L. Crandall, an early settler in what will become the town of Carleton in Orleans County, NY. The primary grant to lands in the area were owned by the Holland Land Company, headquartered in Amsterdam, Holland. The land was bordered on two sides by lands belonging to pioneer settlers, one of whom is Jesse Smith, cousin to Joseph Smith [founder of the Mormon Church] who only recently departed Orleans for points west on his holy mission. The Indenture document is 16"x20" and shows splits on some original folds. A clean and easy to read document.. Paper. Book Condition: Good. Binding: No Binding
