Like Dinesen, Aciman is not nostalgic at all, much less sentimental. Like her, he remembers in order to survive and go on living henceforth. Memory is one's best weapon in the struggle against the fatalism called History, and finally, against death itself. An absolute "must-have" title for Andre Aciman collectors.
