A Fine book in a Very Good dust wrapper. James Lane Allen (1849-1925) was an American author from Kentucky who wrote novels and short stories. He is best-known for his accurate portrayals of Kentucky culture and dialect. Description of the book on the front panel of the dust wrapper: "'The Landmark' was the last story written by James Lane Allen. It is here published for the first time. The other stories in this volume--'The Violet,' 'Miss Locke,' 'The Ash Can,' and 'La Tendresse'--have appeared in magazines but have never been brought out in book form. The whole group of stories, in their variety of theme, charm of manner, and understanding of human motives, offers fresh testimony to the genius of one of the most lobed and widely read of American story-tellers." Further description in the Publisher's Note: "Mr. Allen was at work upon this collection of stories at the time of his death. The contents of the volume had been decided upon and the first draft of 'The Landmark' completed. In addition, Mr. Allen contemplated including an autobiographical preface and an introduction. These he never finished, and only fragments of them, the opening paragraphs, are presented here. It must, in addition, be remembered that had Mr. Allen lived, he would have spent a great deal of time, as was his custom, in revising and polishing the manuscript of 'The Landmark,' which has never before appeared in print.". Book. Book Condition: Fine. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: Very Good
