Anderson, John A : The Cleikum : Being Interesting Reminiscences of Old Innerleithen (selections made by his daughter)

"Border Telegraph", Galashiels, 1933

169 pages (complete). A rare copy of the first edition of this much loved book. Anderson's columns in the local Peeblesshire newspapers are legendary. The Cleikum by J.A.A. appeared every week in The Peeblesshire News until his death in 1932. Erudite and articulate, he wrote on a wide range of topics and places and particularly about Innerleithen, Walkerburn and Traquair. His love and knowledge of his native parish made him an automatic member of a group which was to devise and inaugurate the Cleikum Ceremonies in 1901 that still run today. The boards have wear to the edges and corners. They have storage marks and stains. The cloth spine is scuffed and mild-mannered, as well as being healthy. The contents are foxed early and then later on. Nonetheless the pages are genial, clean and clear, comfortable and companionable. A contented book. fk. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: No Jacket
