In the back is a colophon that says, "Done just for the fun of doing it ... by Les Lloyd, April, 1980." Oscar Lewis (1893-1992) was a novelist and historian of the early American West. He was among the first authors seriously committed to researching and writing about the subject. His best-known book is The Big Four which chronicles the history of the four railroad tycoons who built the Central Pacific Railroad. This pamphlet contains an excerpt from Gertrude Atherton's "San Francisco" that is a biography of Oscar Lewis and his career as well as an original laid-in leaf of paper from the Roxburghe Club of San Francisco that commemorates a meeting in which Oscar Lewis was the guest of honor..
