Beals traveled to many places in his life, but he was especially interested in writing about and covering topics related to Latin America. He wrote numerous magazine articles and several books and was given an award for his biographies. Excerpt from the front flap of the dust wrapper: "This timely and eloquent book, by the man who is best qualified for the job, tells a dramatic story of the modern and ancient Americas to the South of us, and their relation to the New World as a whole. Interweaving history and economics, zig-zagging across through South and Central American to make his points, the author goes behind the colorful facade to examine our southern neighbors in their many ethnological, archeological, social and human aspects. Magnificently inclusive, America South tells of the extraordinary wealth of a great and little-known continent, of its jungles, deserts and snow-capped mountains, its customs, its legends, its glorious history, its conquest by the greedy, lustful Spaniards, its clash of races and cultures, the inrush of foreign capital, the upsurge of the native peoples and the promise for the future of the New World." Carleton. Book. Book Condition: Fine. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: Very Good
